Aplin Street, Cairns Suburb: Cairns City
History: Named after W. C. Aplin of Clifton Aplin & Co (later Aplin, Brown & Co.), storekeepers of Smithfield in 1876 and later merchants in Cairns. They had a warehouse on the Barron River beside mango trees on the high bank nearly opposite 'Lilybank' at Stratford. This was known as Half-way house. |
