History of Freshwater, Cairns

Lying on the fertile Barron River flats, the area was formerly known as Richmond. In 1886 some of the land was resumed for residential purposes, and named the Freshwater Creek Estate. The name was subsequently corrupted to simply ‘Freshwater’.
