History of Kanimbla, Cairns

Named after MV Kanimbla, a coastal passenger liner, which used Cairns as a cruise port of call between 1936 and 1961, and also served as a Landing Ship Infantry in South West Pacific theatre 1943-45. Kanimbla was named and bounded, as an excised area from Manoora and Mooroobool, by the Governor in Council on the 11th February 1989. The boundaries were amended by the Minister for Natural Resources on the 23rd February 2001.
