History of Manunda, Cairns Manunda was named by Queensland Place Names Board on the 1st September 1973. The boundaries were amended by the Minister for Natural Resources on the 23rd February 2001. Named after TSMV (twin screw motor vessel) Manunda, built Scotland in 1929, for Adelaide Steamship Company Limited. Manunda was a regular winter visitor to Cairns from 1930-56, except for World War II service as 2/1st Australian Army Hospital Ship 1940-46. Sold in 1956, broken up in Japan 1957. |
