It’s interesting to consider buyers’ and sellers’ mindsets in a market like this. People often ask us, ‘When is the best time to buy property?’. The answer to that is ‘20 years ago’. I suspect the answer will be the same again in 20 years time. My point here is that as long as you buy property with a long term view in mind, there’s really not a bad time to buy.

In July 2009 our thoughts were that a $500,000 property investment in Cairns would secure a well located modern executive style dwelling typically renting for $430 to $450 per week. Alternatively the same amount would purchase an above average quality unit in the Cairns CBD, located on the middle levels of a new high rise unit development.

Cairns named Australia's fastest growing region |

Thursday July 1, 2010 - New figures show the far north Queensland city of Cairns is the fastest growing region in Australia.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ASX: ABS.ax) report shows over 25,000 people moved to Cairns between 2004 and 2009.
The city's population grew by 3.8 per cent, followed by the Gold Coast at 3.3 per cent, the Sunshine Coast and Perth in Western Australia.
