Quick makeover tip - paint one wall

If a room in your house needs a new look, try painting just one wall in a contrasting colour to draw attention and add interest.

> Think about what you're trying to accomplish, first. You could create a backdrop for your bed by painting the wall behind it a different colour, or frame your bathtub with a soothing shade. You might consider changing the look of the wall behind the dining room buffet or one side of the hallway. How about the wall at the end of a long kitchen?

> Whatever you paint will be the focus of the room. Choose wisely, as that's where the eye will be drawn.

> Be bold - it's only one wall, so don't be afraid to try a colour you would not choose for a whole room.

> Make sure the colour blends and harmonises with the other things in the room, but remember that soft furnishings can be re-covered to match the new look.

> Use masking tape to protect the surrounding walls and apply the paint with a roller to minimise splashes. Let it dry, and then rearrange your furniture along the wall.
